Wine Lands of South Africa!
Ugh! We started the day off with a negative experience! We were at our hotel, waiting to board the bus. Part of our group was sitting the ounce visiting. Man came along and a town for a few minutes and then left. When it was it was time to go, one of our travellers realized that her backpack was missing. It turns out that the man brought in a black pack with two water bottles in it and switched it with her pack and walked out. We alerted the hotel right away but it was about 30 minutes after he left so he was long gone. The hotel security found it on the camera and I saw a picture of him switching the bags. Apparently this is a new thing that is happening! Luckily, she had her passport and important documents with her. She lost her Souvenirs, a credit card (she immediately cancelled it) and $100 USD. What a crappy wind up for such a fantastic tour! She was a real trooper about it!
Once we got that sorted, we left the hotel and headed out of the city towards the wine region.
We stopped at Fairview Winery, it was very nice. 11 people did a wine tasting with cheese pairing and four of us did just a cheese tasting.
Then we to a beautiful drive up there Frranzhoek pass where we had an amazing view of. The vineyards and mountains. We drove back down and stopped in Stellenbosch for lunch. It is A quaint university and tourist town.
All too soon it was time to head to the airport. We fly from Cape Town to Johannesburg and then board the big plane to begin our 16 flight back to JFK. We have a day room for our 11 hour layover in NYC and then we head to Calgary and home. We have a long haul ahead of us!!
