Goodbye Zimbabwe
We started out bright and early this morning with a 6:00 am game drive. We made a quick trip back to the national park but didn’t see anything new. We got back to the lodge at 8:00, said goodbye to our safari guides, ate breakfast and departed at 10:00 am. Our same bus driver, Arther, came to pick us up. We travelled back to Victoria Falls where Arther dropped us off at the Victoria Falls Hotel (very posh) for 30 minutes while he went for fuel. There was an amazing view of the bridge and mist from the falls out the front of the property.
We then continued on to the border between Zimbabwe and Botswana. That was quite an experience. First, we all got off the bus to have our passports stamped by the Zimbabwe customs. We got back on the bus, drove a few hundred meters, got off the bus to fill out forms to declare that we haven’t been exposed to Coronavirus and they took our temperature. Once we were all cleared, we got back on the bus, drove a few hundred meters, off the bus and in to Botswana customs to have our passports stamped. By this time, the skies had opened up and it was pouring rain!!! Back on the bus, drove a few hundred meters, off the bus to have our shoes sanitized against hoof and mouth disease! 🤦♀️ At last, we were on our way!!!!
We drove another 15 minutes to Chobe Safari Lodge, our home for the next three nights. It is an absolutely beautiful lodge with amazing rooms. It was 2:30 when we arrived and we were hungry!!! We went straight to lunch and were entertained by a group of baboons fighting over territory in a tree right outside the restaurant. After lunch we quickly got checked in to our rooms and then regrouped at 4:00 pm for our river cruise.
We really enjoyed our two hour cruise on the Chobe River. We got to see lots of hippos, both in and out of the water, crocodiles, Cape buffalo, elephants plus various other antelope and birds. It was a really pleasant cruise.
At 7:30 we met and walked across to the sister hotel for our dinner. The setting is magnificent and the buffet was out of this world!!
The wifi seems to be a bit slow so I may not get pictures up tonight. I will do my best to get them up asap.
Goodnight!
