Early Morning Excitement
Our morning started off with a bang!!! We were heading down the highway to the park when someone spotted a leopard just inside the trees along the road! There was about 15 Safari jeeps that quickly gathered as everyone was heading to the park at the same time! Everyone in all three of our jeeps got to see him but only Margaret Johnson got a decent picture. The good news is that we all have the picture in our minds! 😊
We had another enjoyable drive through the lush Chobe Park. We were in search of elephants but only managed to find one but he was eating right beside the road! Our guide was busy tracking lions as there were tracks everywhere!!! Suddenly we were on a mission and finally found the site where two lions were mating! The male and female were lying together and snoozing as they had just mated. Our guide told us that when they are mating they copulate every ten minutes for about two weeks! 🤦♀️🤪We were just about to leave when the action began!!! It only lasts about 20 seconds, so we had to be quick with our cameras! No privacy for those poor lions!!! What a highlight! Another “first” African experience! 👍
We also got to see more giraffes and a Kory Bustard, which is a bird almost as big as an ostrich! We went back to our lodge feeling very satisfied!!!!
We actually got a 5 hour break today. A chance to relax, nap, repack, whatever. It was very welcome as we have been going hard since we left Victoria Falls.
We went on another game drive this afternoon. We spent a lot of our time travelling beside the river. We enjoyed watching the hippos playing in the ponds and the crocodiles sunning themselves. We are seeing lots of amazing birds as well. We came across a group of elephants that had been down at the river and were making their way back up to the trees. Some of them were totally covered in mud.
We stopped for a refreshment break halfway through our safari and then continued on. We once again saw the elephants back in the trees and we got t9 witness another new experience! A baby elephant was nursing when a second large female came along. She tapped the baby and let out a sound. The baby unlatched, followed the second elephant and started nursing from her. We are a little baffled with what was happening there!
As we were heading out of the park we began spotting elephants everywhere!! When we were on our way back to the lodge we were lucky enough to see a group of banded mongooses and able to take pictures. We had seen some in The park but they are very fast and they hide under the trees, so we felt very lucky!
We had another lovely dinner. This resort is amazing! Sadly, we have to leave here tomorrow, on to a whole new adventure!
