Cape Town
We woke up to a beautiful sunny and calm day (the wind has been really blowing the past few days). We departed at 8:15 and headed straight to Table Mountain. It seems that everyone else had the same idea! We stood in line for 1.5 hours to get on the cable car to take us up to the top of the mountain. Apparently it had been closed for the past two days due to high winds, so that explains why it was so busy. It was absolutely gorgeous up top. We had 45 minutes to walk around and take pictures from all four sides. What a view!
It was almost noon by the time we got back down to the bus. We did a driving tour of Cape Town and stopped to take pictures of the lovely colourful streets in Bo-Kaap. We did a short walk to see the Parliament buildings, the Cathedral where Desmond Tutu preached, the Town Hall with Nelson Mandela’s statue and a walk through the Company’s Garden.
We ended our tour at the V&A Waterfront. We divided up in small groups and went for lunch and then had a few hours for shopping. It was a beautiful setting all around the marina and there was good people watching for those that didn’t want to shop.
We returned to the hotel at 5:00 to get freshened up and left again at 6:00 to go for dinner. We went to a restaurant called “The Cod Father” which was suggested by Julianne in our group. It started out with some confusion as it wasn’t a traditional restaurant. It was very busy and chaotic. You ordered your fish and seafood products from the display case and they weighed it and charged you accordingly. Once we got the hang of it things went more smoothly. We got back to the hotel around 9:00 pm.
